Welcome Summer!!

I know the "official" start of summer is not till next month, but we are definitely feeling the heat here in NJ.

We had a nice, long Memorial Day weekend with a trip to the beach...
a barbecue at Grandpa's (the kids love rolling down the hill in his backyard)...
 and some backyard fun...
Last week, I spent most of my time sewing up a matching outfit for Emma & Reid. It's so hard to find cute matching outfits for a boy and girl, but I always like to make them one or two, especially in the summer. I picked out a great madras fabric at Joann's a few weeks ago that was pretty gender neutral.

I made Emma a ruffly skirt using the cupcake skirt tutorial on Simple Simon & Company as a guide. I tweaked it here and there and found a SUPER easy way to gather the ruffles which I will share soon :) Emma LOVED her twirly skirt...
For Reid, I made him shorts from a pattern I bought from Sew Sweet Patterns. This is the third pattern I bought from them. Their patterns are always so easy to understand. This one was a little trickier because the shorts have only an elastic back and a flat front but they definitely make them look more dressier and not as "homemade"...
Aren't they the cutest?
Happy Summer!!
